Chablis. Domaine Long-Depaquit

Right after the city centre of Chablis you can find a lovely villa with a sizable garden. This is the headquarters of Long – Depaquit winery that belongs to Albert Bichot. Bichot is a large wine producer that produces different wines across Burgundy.

It was established in 1831 by Bernard Bichot in Monthélie, however it really turned up to eleven under the leadership of Albert Bichot who was Bernard’s grandson. Albert also handpicked Beaune as the main headquarters of the winery (from 1912). Currently the winery is run by Alberic Bichot – under his command the company has grown to consist of six different wineries scattered around Burgundy.

Today Long-Depaquit consists of 65 hectares of parcels. Interventionism is set to minimum in order to craft wines that are mineral and elegant – hallmarks of Chablis wines. Also stainless steel tanks are preferred to oak barrels in order to preserve uniqueness of each of the terroris. Winery produces following Grand Cru wines: Les Clos, Vaudesir, Blanchot,  Bougros, Les Preuses and monopole – “Moutton”.

Psst: It is likely that during the tasting you will not be the only visitors. Our group consisted of 6 and we have introduced a blind tasting idea to add another dimension to the tasting pleasure. Fun times guaranteed! After the tasting, which in our case took place in the garden, it is worthwhile to have a stroll and see the beautiful roses.

Tasting: Tasting should be reserved on a website https://www.ruedesvignerons.com/. It costs 7 euro per person, however if you buy wine for 30 euro per person or one more expensive wine (Grand Cru) the price of tasting will be deducted.

Worth trying: yet again I have chosen Grand Cru Bougros. South – western exposure of the parcel provides long sunlight hours. This transfers over to a lovely caramel notes. During the tasting I didn’t try “Moutton”. A pity, as it is difficult to buy a wine that costs over 100 euro without getting trying it first.
