Exploring Star Producers, Hidden Gems & Future Cult Wines.
Champagne. Agrapart
Champagne. Benoît Lahaye
Benoît Lahaye is one of the most recognized biodynamic producers in the region. His champagnes are concentrated, full-bodied, dense and powerful, which is typical for Bouzy and the neighboring villages of Montagne de Reims. They have distinct bruised apple and toasty notes with a chalky finish. The modern history of Champagne Lahaye begins in 1993 when Benoît started to work in the family vineyards established by his great-grandfather. As was common back then he sold all of his grapes to the big champagne houses. The independent production started in 1996 when the family left the cooperative.
Champagne. David Léclapart
Located in the eastern side of the Montagne de Reims in a small village Trépail David Leclapart is currently producing some of the most exciting wines the Champagne region has to offer. Although this is part of Montagne de Reims, which is known for Pinot Noir, Trépail is a great place for Chardonnay. David cultivates 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir, which by the way is the ratio for his tête de cuvée L’Aphrodisiaque.
Poland. Jean Thierry Smolis
Champagne. Jacques Selosse
If somebody asked me to summarize my experience while tasting the wines with Anselme and Guillaume Selosse I would rephrase the famous monk: “Come quickly, I am drinking the star”. But this star is just an end product of a meticulous work and set of principles which guide everything Domaine Jacquess Selosse does.
Chablis. Domaine Long-Depaquit
Right after the city centre of Chablis you can find a lovely villa with a sizable garden. This is the headquarters of Long – Depaquit winery that belongs to Albert Bichot. Bichot is a large wine producer that produces different wines across Burgundy.
Chablis. Domaine Laroche
Located in the heart of the village Domaine Laroche is deeply rooted in the region’s history. Its headquarters is located in „Obédiencerie”, an old church where wine has been produced for over 1000 years.
Chablis. Jean-Marc Brocard
Not far from Chablis you will find a tiny village called Prehy, where next to the XV century Saint Clair church you can find Jean-Marc Brocard winery famous for white wines made from chardonnay grapes. Winery produces Chablis wine from 4 appellations: Petit Chablis, Chablis, Premier Cru and Grand Cru.
Chablis. Domaine William Fèvre
Domaine William Fèvre is one of the most prestigious winemakers, despite its relative short history, has been producing top quality Chablis for many years now. Fèvre family has been living in Chablis for 250 years, but the winery was established in 1959 by Maurice Fèvre – William’s father.
Chablis. The golden gate to Burgundy
Chablis is a wine region, farthest to the north of Burgundy. Only white wines from the very popular chardonnay grapes are produced in the area of appellation. The similarities between Chablis wines and the whites of Burgundy are few. Chablis wines are known for their minerality.
