Georgia. Georgian Wine Tasting

Last week I had the pleasure to attend my first tasting of Georgian Wines under the patronage of the National Wine Agency of Georgia @poznajsmakgruzji, which took place in a lovely Georgian restaurant in Warsaw @restauracja_rusiko. The flight consisted of 6 different labels that represented the huge variety Georgia has to offer:

🍷 Qimerioni, Rkatsiteli 2019 @qimerioniwine - Rkatsiteli is the Georgian grape variety prepared in a “western” style with barrel aging. Notes of tropical fruits, vanilla, slightly oily and herbal – a hint of juniper and paint
🍷 39 Qvevri, Rkatsiteli 2019 @qvevrivina is an example of traditional Georgian wine produced in qvevri – terracotta amphora and given a long maceration on the skins. Notes of wax and flowers – you can immediately identify the difference in the winemaking.

🍷 Sevsamora Winery Kisi 2019 @maranisevsamora was a very popular wine in our group. Spruce, forest aromas, tea notes and a great acidity – a lovely wine to drink on a hot summer evening.
🍷 Qvevri Wine Cellar, Khikhvi 2020 was very closed on the nose, slight aromas of wine must, really difficult to judge.

🍷 Georgian Vine and Wine Company (Shilda), Saperavi 2020 @shildawinery - Saperavi is the native grape variety which is possibly the most famous Georgian variety around the world. Big bold flavours, prune, blueberry, blackberry, wildberry, raisins. Very supple on the palate with good balance and decent length.
🍷 Aleksandreuli, Aleksandreuli 2019 - here I found more red fruit notes, much more dry than sweet – cranberry, red currant, herbal notes with a slight hint of pepper. Nicely polished tannins.

The tasting was complemented by many traditional Georgian dishes, among others Khachapuri filled with 3 types of cheese. Thank you @republika_wina & People PR for inviting me!
